Privacy
Last updated: 6 November 2026. This page explains in plain words what MARS CITY AI (marscity.ai) does with information. Questions or requests: [email protected].
Who is responsible
The website marscity.ai is run by its owner, reachable at [email protected]. It is a hobby and education project about Mars. It is a game and a story, not an official document or service.
Reading the site
You can read the blog, play the games and use the Mars clock without giving us anything. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. The site keeps a few small notes in your own browser so that it works: your citizen level, how many questions you have asked on this visit, and your crew membership if you joined. You can clear them in your browser settings.
Ask MARTA (the chat)
- When you ask a question, the text is sent through our server to an AI service provider, which runs the AI model that writes MARTA's answers.
- Our server does not save your questions. The AI service provider handles them under its own terms and privacy policy.
- Please do not type personal or sensitive information into the chat.
- Answers are written by AI and can contain mistakes.
Your passport and the Mars crew list
- If you only create a passport, your Mars name and role stay in your browser. They are not sent to us.
- If you press Join the Mars crew and tick the consent box, we store your Mars name, your role, your crew number and the time you joined, plus a secret code that lets only you remove your entry. We do not ask for your real name, email or phone number. Please use a made-up Mars name and not your real name.
- Your Mars name and role are public: they appear on the crew list on the website, and anyone who scans the QR code on your passport can check them.
- If you choose a home country or add your own photo, they are used only to draw your passport picture. They stay on your device, are not sent to us, and do not appear on the crew list. Clearing your browser data removes them.
- We keep the entry until you remove it. You can remove it yourself at any time with the Remove me from the crew list button, or email us and we will remove it. The owner can also remove names that are rude or not allowed.
- MARTA can see the public crew list (Mars names, roles and crew numbers, never the secret codes) so she can answer questions about the crew. This is the same information that is already public on the website.
- The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by removing your entry.
The Mars quiz and name checks
- The quiz gives your browser a random code (it is not your name or email) so we can sign your result and keep you from retaking it too fast. The code and your quiz pass are stored in your browser.
- While you take the quiz, and for up to an hour afterwards, our server keeps short-lived markers linked to that random code and to your connection (IP address): that a quiz is running, when you may try again, and how many Mars names were refused. They delete themselves. We do not keep your answers.
- When you join the crew, your Mars name is sent to the same AI service provider for an automatic check that it is not rude or misleading. A name the check is unsure about waits for a person to approve it before it appears on the public list.
The entry gate, training camp and launch notifications
- At gate.marscity.ai you show your passport number and secret code. The code is checked against a one-way fingerprint, and the site gives your browser a short pass that lasts 3 hours. Credentials you earn at the training camp are saved with your crew entry.
- If you press Notify me on the launch gate, your browser gives us a notification address (a web address owned by your browser's push service, plus two encryption keys). We keep it with your passport number only to send you the launch time, the day-before reminder and the boarding message. If you also save an email address there, we keep it with your passport number for the same three messages. Every email has a link to remove it, and you can remove it yourself at any time. Press Turn off notifications and it is deleted. Browser push services (Google, Apple, Mozilla or Microsoft, depending on your browser) carry the message but cannot read it.
Following someone special (the watch path)
- At marscity.ai/watch you choose one of four story characters and a song. We save that choice on our server under a random watcher code (for example W-XXXX-XX). There is no name, email or account. The choice cannot be changed. Your browser also keeps the code on your device so you can return, and the QR code on your passport contains a link with the code.
- If you send a light, we count it and remember only the day you sent it, so you can send one a day.
- If you press Notify this phone, your browser gives us a notification address (and two encryption keys). We keep it with your watcher code only to tell you when a new chapter opens. Press Stop notifications and it is deleted.
- If you type your email address on that page, we keep it with your watcher code only to send you an email when a new chapter opens. Every email has a link that deletes the address. You can also remove it on the page by saving an empty box. Emails are sent through an email delivery service, which receives your address and the message.
- We do not use this for advertising and we do not share it. To have your watcher code and everything linked to it deleted, write to [email protected] with the code.
Eunostos Live (messages and the camera)
- At marscity.ai/live you sign in with your passport number and secret code. The code is checked on our server and is not saved on your device; your browser keeps a short sign-in pass for up to 3 hours.
- When you send a message, we save it on our server with your passport number, the traveller you wrote to and the time. Messages are private: only you can see them on the page. They are stored on servers in the United States. We keep them for 90 days, then they are deleted.
- To write the travellers' answers, your message, your Mars name and your last few messages to the same traveller are sent through our server to an AI service provider, which runs the AI model that writes the answers. It handles them under its own terms and privacy policy.
- Messages are checked automatically for safety. We may read a message if it is flagged, and we can stop a message so it is not shown or answered. Please do not write personal details such as addresses, phone numbers or real names.
- When you steer the camera, we save the direction you chose with your passport number and the time, to limit it to once an hour. These records are deleted after 30 days.
- To have your messages deleted sooner, write to [email protected] with your passport number.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you, and you can withdraw your consent at any time, by emailing [email protected]. If you are in the EU, you also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority.
